Weekly Movie Recommendations : 6th September 2008 - 12th September 2008

Whats It About - 23 elite U.S. soldiers drop into Somalia to capture two top lieutenants of a renegade warlord and find themselves in a desperate battle with a large force of heavily-armed Somalis.
Why To Watch It - Mark Bowden of the Philadelphia Inquirer told the story of the battle in his exhaustively researched, critically acclaimed book, BLACK HAWK DOWN, and filmmaker Ridley Scott (GLADIATOR) and screenwriter Ken Nolan have done an amazing job of bringing the dramatic story to the screen. Like Bowden's book, the film does not thoroughly examine the context of the conflict, but gives a detailed and intense blow-by-blow account of the fighting. The outstanding ensemble cast includes Josh Hartnett as a competent but nervous Ranger sergeant leading his first mission, Ewan McGregor as a "desk jockey" who excels when sent into combat, Eric Bana (THE INCREDIBLE HULK) as a cocky and enigmatic Delta, and Ron Eldard as a downed Black Hawk pilot. The violence of the film is brutal and nearly constant. Scott unflinchingly captures the chaos and mayhem of battle with tremendous visual finesse.
There cannot be a better action movie to make the most of your weekend. Get your home theater working, catch a big bag of chips/cheese balls/popcorn, get that 8-10 pack of your favorite beer/cola/whatever, lay back and enjoy the endeavor. Trust me you wont be disappointed. And oh yeah, you need not involve your girl friend also. This way you will have a much wanted time and space to yourself, have a much over due boys movie time and you will save yourself those tears which you had to bear while watching romantic movies with your loved ones !! :-)

Google Chrome Is Here - IE and Firefox, beware and be scared..very scared !
First impressions looks very neat and slick with minimal design and nice use of pastel colors which are quite pleasing visually. I can go and on about Google Chrome and its new features but i highly recommend checking out the following links and videos. Though its in Beta, its definitely worth to give it a try ! The way it has been done and presented is a fantastic visual treat. Its so pleasing to the eye and the impact on the overall short is tremendous. Haven't seen such a beautiful short in a long long time.

My Class 2 Progress Demo Reel as a Student At AnimationMentor.com
Here is my 3 months of hardwork during my Class 2 - Body Mechanics at Animation Mentor - Character Animation School.
Although i should have posted this earlier, but then i moved to Class 3, things got busy and was caught up with life so i hardly got time to polish and compile it. Anyways, better late than never !
These 3 months were super fun and a huge learning experience. Body mechanics was one area where i was lacking a lot and i was looking for solid guidance prior to joining Animation Mentor. And thankfully i was lucky to have a mentor like Dana Boadway who was extremely supportive and encouraging. With huge experience in Animation, Art, Theatre and what not and a trained dancer with around 15 years of dancing experience, she sure knows what she is talking about.
Body mechanics is the foundation for any animator wanting to pursue a career in Animation. Whatever I learnt in Class 1 - Basic Foundations started to making more sense in Class 2. Body physicality and believability in motion just cannot be ignored. No matter how much detail you put in terms of acting and emotions, if your overall motion is not working, it just wont connect with the audience and it will fall flat.
I wont say i have mastered Body Mechanics, but i definitely see a massive improvement in my understanding of it and hopefully it will show in the following video. In animation the more you learn it seems the less you know. Thats the beauty of this field. Every day is a fresh day with loads of stuff to learn and immerse in your self.
Animation is never finished, its just abandoned as every time you see it there is always scope for improvement. I am sure there is quite a lot which can be refined, but i am not sure whether i would go back and tweak more. Its easy to get stuck with a particular piece of animation and its important to move on. So I guess i would try something different to keep getting better at it. But so far i am quite pleased with what i have done so far. Thanks Dana ! :-)
